An extensive extended cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated following the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the personnel realised the lady was missing.

A major rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, alongside investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company said that guests and crew on the ship were notified that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the travelers via specially arranged planes".

Officials also issued an updated communication, and said they had "issued a order to the Master" prohibiting any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

Sequence of Events

The vessel initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the elderly woman's demise. Lizard Island was the opening port on the journey.

Travelers on the ship - who usually pay tens of thousands of money to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

Next of Kin Response

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the liner left the location after an organised tour without my mother".

Via her announcement, she described her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a hiking group.

"From the little facts we have been provided, it looks that there was a failure of care and ordinary reasoning," she stated.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the organization should have undertaken that might have saved Mother's being".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a extremely warm day, and mother became unwell on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to return, alone. Then the boat departed, apparently without doing a passenger count.

"During some point in that sequence, or not long after, mother passed away, without company."

Company Reaction

Through an announcement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with investigators to aid their examination".

He said that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Standards

The vessel serves up to 120 travelers with nearly fifty personnel, according to official details. It was specifically designed to reach remote areas of the nation's shoreline and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - minor craft used to transport passengers on land visits.

Occurrences like this are infrequent, and cruise ships have procedures to track which passengers are boarding or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] aboard just isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Shipping companies take these methods extremely carefully and have "advanced technology in place to prevent such incidents from occurring," the authority added.

"This appears to be probably a surprising - and sad - isolated incident."
