In a unexpected collaboration that challenges usual expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an virtual partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event operates from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Questline Revealed

According to the official announcement, "A strange encounter draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh quest, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome metamorphoses echo through the shadows." The narrative features a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Crystalline Cavern—a significant location from Attack on Titan—to rescue her ally from a secret cult.

The adventure focuses on "strange tests and a terrifying enemy" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Metamorphoses

The teaser highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This important location was earlier where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview finishes with a dramatic scene showing a character, presumably the prisoner, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Exclusive Prizes and Bonus Material

Players who accomplish the quest will receive an unique katana alongside multiple objects hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-based attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique weapons
• Survey Corps vehicle

Third Free Story Update

This release also adds the game's newest free story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade distinctive techniques: Naoe introduces a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke learns subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a original environmental puzzle that may finally shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Past Japanese Animation Partnerships

This marks hardly the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime properties. The series earlier included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly included a quest that unmistakably echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
